The History of RODINA Association
In 1921 Mr. Adam Strapoň founded an association called RODINA (Family) in Čeklís – a village in southwestern Slovakia, today called Bernolákovo. He bought land and built an orphanage with the aim to provide a safe place for orphans, who were in abundance in the region after World War I. He later added a home to care for the elderly. His Christian conviction of love for one’s neighbor led him to this ministry. He was able to do it with the help of many Christians (Baptists) from Bernolákovo, the whole of Czechoslovakia, and abroad.
With the advent of Communism after World War II, the ministry was stopped, and the property was nationalized. In the 1990’s, most of the property was given back, and today it is owned by the Slovak Baptist Union.
There has been an Initiative in the church since 2017 which seeks to build on the legacy of Adam Strapoň, the aim being to build a complex with several functions on a plot of land in the center of Bernolákovo.
Our Vision
We believe that as Christians, we are called to show mercy for our neighbors – especially for those who are sick, lonely, and in need of 24/7 care.
Therefore, we would like to build assisted living homes for seniors. We would provide social services for seniors – accommodation, meals, social counseling, social rehabilitation, and other areas of assistance. We plan to build two homes with a capacity of 40 clients each.
The project costs are estimated to be € 6.5 million, 5.4 million of which we would receive from a state mortgage program. We need to raise another € 900,000 from our partners and donors. If you would like to donate, you may support us here.
In the next phase we want to build rental houses for self-sustaining seniors and the assisted living home employees, a health care center and a kindergarten.
